For his often large-format paintings, Michael Armitage uses the material Lubugo as a canvas. This is a bark cloth from Uganda, for the production of which fig tree bark is traditionally inserted, beaten and then dried and stretched.

An enlagerged and therefore only partly visible painting was used for the poster which was printed in offset. While the information was over-printed in silkscreen.

The white remained slightly translucent, so that when you look closer at the poster, you can actually see the underlying surface/painting.
The typesetting on one hand emphasizes the sewing work in Michael Armitage’s painting by cutting out the letters where the original sewing work took place.
On the other hand, the movements of the text itself are reminiscent of the sewing movements.
