zweikommasieben is a Swiss magazine that has been devoted to the documentation of contemporary music since the summer of 2011. The magazine features artist interviews, essays and reviews as well as photography, illustration, and graphics. In addition zweikommasieben curates and organizes a variety of events, concerts, and performances.
We have been part of the design team from the beginning and we design each issue from scratch.
zweikommasieben is bilingual: English and German. The design of the issue Nr. 19 focuses on the magazine’s use of language: What kind of texts are published? Do they come from written or spoken language? What is the original language spoken? Which texts are translated?
Instead of using initials of the artist or interviewer to differentiate answers and questions in the interviews, a detail is taken from the photograph of the artist and used instead of the initials of the artist and interviewer. Hence the interviews read more fluidly, and question and answer are more delicately intermingled.
In this magazine, the typeface Rungli was used for the first time, which is designed by Kaj and now commercially available at ecal typefaces.
